Preparing for Annapurna Sanctuary Trek

We are going to trek to Annapurna Base Camp – starting at 1.070m in Nayapul and going up to almost 4.100m.

The return tour will take 11 days. Since we are not experienced at all we decided to hire a guide who will accompany us on the trek. Hiring a guide can be done either individually or through an agency. We decided to book through an agency because this way we can be sure that the guide has an insurance and also a good trekking equipment. If you hire a guide individually you are responsible yourself for his well-being. After looking at several offers from different agencies, we decided to go with Trek Nepal Int. They have a good reputation and were the only agency that didn´t want to sell us any extra, or charge service fees on every single item. So this is our cost:

  • Guide for 12 days: $25/day
  • TIMS (Trekking Permit): $10/person (20 when you buy it without an agency)
  • ADAP: $20/person
  • Bus to Pokhara: $7/person

On the trek you need to calculate around $20 per day. As we said before, equipment can be bought or rented at every corner in Kathmandu, so we got everything that we didn´t have yet. And again, here is the packing list:

  • Sleeping bag (rented in Kathmandu for 100 NPR/day)
  • Inner sleeping bag
  • Functional underwear
  • Fleece jacket
  • Wind & waterproof jacket
  • Travel towel
  • Down jacket
  • Walking sticks (walking sticks and down jackets bought in Kathmandu for 5.00 NPR)
  • Water bottles & drinking water sterilisation
  • Camera
  • Trekking shoes

And all of this needs to fit in two small backpacks…

After a 7 hours bus drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara we arrived at around 3 pm to the hotel. We are staying at Butterfly Lodge, a really nice but „expensive“ hotel – we are paying $25 per night. We can leave our luggage here tomorrow and will come back for 2 nights to relax after the trek. Tomorrow morning at 7am we will start by driving to Nayapul, from where we will start trekking. We are very excited and can´t wait to see the Himalaya!
